The Lathkil Hotel is the place to go for a special break where you’ll find old fashioned hospitality, good food and relaxation served in the heart of the beautiful Peak National Park. Situated in the tiny Derbyshire village of Over Haddon, perched above the stunning Lathkill Dale, just two miles from the historic market town of Bakewell. The Lathkil Hotel, is not part of a chain but a friendly local team who want to help you make the most of your time at the hotel and the local surroundings so that you'll want to come back time and time again.

There has been a public house here since Georgian times. It used to be called the Miners' Arms and was used for much-needed refreshment by the lead miners working in the Lathkil Dale. Indeed, in the 1850s, it was even owned by the local mining agent, James Bateman. Below the village of Over Haddon lies the stunningly beautiful Lathkill Dale. The Lathkill Dale is often referred to as the least known, yet the most beautiful of the Derbyshire dales. The River Lathkill runs from a limestone cave near the top of the dale and on to join the River Wye. The upper and lower reaches of the dale are quite different in character. Conveniently, the point at which it changes is just below Over Haddon village, so Lathkil Hotel visitors have easy access to both parts. The dale today is a peaceful place but 150 years ago it was an industrial site - lead mining was a crucial source of income in the area. Traces of this past industry can still be seen. Robert Grigor-Taylor has been the landlord of The Lathkil Hotel for the last 27 years and since then the hotel has been wholly family run. The full Lathkil Hotel breakfast is almost Victorian in scale, boasting sausage and black pudding all locally obtained from the New Close Farm shop, just across the fields and smoked bacon from Critchlows of Bakewell. You will also experience local free-range eggs, mushrooms, tomato and a local speciality, the Derbyshire oatcake which is not to be missed. This is all in addition to assorted juices, cereals, toast, tea & coffee and fruit. The bar has a traditional style, with a roaring fire in the cold winters, much welcomed after a long walk. With traditional wooden beams, wooden settles and a warm, cosy and inviting atmosphere. It is in fact so traditional that it was used as part of the set for the film And When Did I last See My Father? starring Jim Broadbent and Colin Firth, which was released in October 2007. At lunchtime food is served buffet style. There is a wide choice of home-made food ranging from snacks like soup with a crusty roll or filled rolls with a salad garnish to main meals like venison casserole, lasagne or ham salad, as well as vegetarian alternatives accompanied by a range of salads or delicious chips and peas. There is also a great selection of puddings. Lunches are served from 12noon - 2.00pm Monday to Friday and 12noon - 2.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. A more extensive menu is available in the evening. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the restaurant is invitingly laid out as above to accommodate our diners. Guest’s on these evenings may eat in the bar if they prefer. Booking a table is strongly recommended, via the Additional Information, if you intend to eat on either a Friday or Saturday sitting in the restaurant, particularly if you are wanting a window table with the fabulous view. From Sunday through Thursday, our patrons can eat in a more informal setting, either in the unlade dining room or in the bar. Evening Meals are served from 6.00pm - 8.00pm Sunday to Thursday nights and 7.00pm - 8.30pm Friday & Saturday nights. At the Lathkil Hotel, you can take in a panoramic and breathtaking view of the dale from the beer garden, as seen in the photograph, and you can also enjoy the comforting and expansive area in which to relax on those summer afternoons. With ample seating, this area is delightful to eat and drink in, whether you are relaxing after a long walk, or just here to enjoy the beautiful and atmospheric surroundings. The garden is also fantastic at night, carefully lit with ornamental Narnian lighting.
