Step back in time and experience life below-stairs at Sir Walter Elliot's House in central Bath in a spacious self-catering apartment The apartment has two large double/twin bedrooms that can each be made up with an extra sofa bed to provide accommodation for up to 6 guests. The Butler's Room is a sunny south facing room looking up to the garden where the twin beds can also be made up as a Kingsize double bed. The former Housekeepers room is a large bedroom with a period fireplace that makes a spacious twin or double bedroom. The former strong room has been converted to make a beautifully tiled en-suite shower room. Beneath the south facing window, the housekeeper had a small lead-lined sink for washing the best glasses, porcelain and silver, using a soft water supply collected from the roofs and stored in a separate tank above the closet. If required there is a small sofa which folds out to make a firm and comfortable third bed, please book as an upgrade. The apartment is directly opposite Sydney Gardens, and the level walk to the city centre will hardly take you five minutes. There you can enjoy the excellent shopping, museums and architectural sights for which Bath is world-famous. Please note there is a minimum stay of 2 nights throughout the year and a minimum of 3 nights on bank holidays. A 15% discount will be applied on bookings over 4 nights & 25% discount on bookings over 7 nights.

On 30th September 1808 the Right Honourable William Harry Earl of Darlington of Raby Castle of the one part, and John Jacobs of the Parish of Walcot in the County of Somerset, Builder and Plaisterer of the other part, signed a Building Lease of Ground in Sydney Place, Bathwick, to build one substantial dwelling house. Despite the time of year, and the lack of lighting and modern powered machinery, the house was to be roofed by 25th December of that year, and completed by 25th March in 1809. A feat that makes the recent restoration of this house, that was structurally in fairly good condition, over a period of some twelve months look distinctly dilatory! The new kitchen has been fitted out with electric oven and glass ceramic hob, and of course there is a microwave and a fridge with small freezer compartment for your favourite ice-cream. And just in case your accompanying friends imagine they are here for a holiday and a rest, and object to helping out in the kitchen, we have built-in a small dishwasher that can still cope with 8 or 9 place settings - but we will still hold you responsible for keeping all the heavyweight pots and pans as scrupulously clean as you would like to find them next time. The sitting room was the original kitchen for the house, and still retains the old range, bread oven and warming plate, with hooks above for the old spits to be used in front of the open fire that would have preceded the central cast-iron range. Two leather Chesterfield sofas and some chairs provide for genteel relaxation, and a pine table and chairs provide a period eating area in this spacious and gently north-lit living room for the apartment. A cooked breakfast can be provided for you at an extra cost, please provide this information in the additional information when booking.
