The Old Rectory is full of atmosphere with high ceilings and traditional features. Sit back and relax in the drawing room beside an open fire in winter or take afternoon tea on the beautiful south facing terrace, when weather permits! The ½ acre walled garden is sheltered and full of roses, with mature trees and a small orchard to stroll through. Barningham Village, which lies between Barnard Castle and Richmond, is small and perfect in stone, nestling under the moors in Teesdale. There are many places to visit including Rokeby Park, Bowes Museum, Egglestone Hall Gardens, Thorp Perrow Arboretum and Plantsmans Corner, a huge walled garden in the middle of Barningham, full of unusual and rare plants. The Morritt Arms Hotel is just down the road and serves delicious food seven days a week. It also boasts a stunning and very old Dickensian mural in the bar. One twin bedded room and two single bedrooms available with a large private bathroom.

The Old Rectory was built in 1810. The Curate lived in the wing which faces west and opens out onto the Courtyard where the Coaching House is situated. There is a door from the Courtyard into the Churchyard and from there you can look out over the hills to the moors. St. Michael and All Angels church burnt down in 1850 and was rebuilt soon after. Barningham Park gardens are open to the public on certain days during the summer. The house dates back to the 14th century. Full English breakfast included and served in the the large country kitchen. Where possible the food used is local and in most cases organic. The Old Rectory sits in a half-acre walled secluded garden with views up to Barningham Wood with some wonderful planting it sits above the snow line and has a steep north facing slope with waterfalls cascading down through colourful beds. Sheltered and peaceful it is filled with herbaceous plants, roses and shrubs. You can sit on the terrace, take tea and relax and the only sound you can hear is that of the odd tractor going by. The cobbled courtyard is filled with tubs of geraniums and pleached apples and pears grow up the walls.
