Orchard Hall is part of the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC), based in the city of Hereford, in the West Midlands, 15 miles from the border with Wales. It can be easily reached by train and car, approximately one hour’s drive from Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol and just 20 minutes’ walk from Hereford railway station and the city centre. Offering outstanding hospitality, comfort and friendliness which are combined with first class facilities to produce a hotel style venue, ideally suited for your stay in Hereford. Accommodation is available in single ensuite bedrooms with communal self catering facilities. Income generated through Orchard Hall is invaluable in helping provide the very best opportunities for students at RNC.

RNC was first established in London In 1872. Throughout its history the college has provided further education and training for persons who are blind or visually impaired (VI) to facilitate their independence in society. Orchard Hall has fully equipped communal kitchens available for guests use. Lunch and dinner are available for groups of 10 or more at additional cost, and must be booked in advance. The same option (for two or three course dining) must be selected for each diner, with a vegetarian option if anyone requires it. These meal choices will be made specially, and will not otherwise be available as a choice on the night. If you have any special dietary requirements, please ensure the college are aware ahead of your arrival by making a note in the 'Additional Information' section of the booking form. Churchill Gardens is a large park which has the most spectacular views over the city of Hereford as well as the Welsh borderlands and is a short walking distance from Gardner Hall. It is an unspoilt and often quiet area to visit, with benches dotted about the gardens making it suitable for picnicking. There is a fragrant garden containing plants known for their aromatic traits and the mini arboretum is a popular place for casual strollers as well as dog walkers. There’s a car park nearby at Venns Lane. Aylestone Park consists of three differing areas; for sports, for general recreation and for wildlife. A network of footpaths winds throughout the site including disabled access to all parts. The higher end of the Park provides beautiful views over Herefordshire, and has a superb viewing point and telescope installed, together with picnic tables and park seats strategically sited over the whole area. Guests are welcome to make use of thePoint4, the state of the art, fully accessible fitness suite with hydrotherapy pool and spa, situated on Venns Lane. An additional cost will apply and advance booking may be required. TV and hairdryers are both provided, along with hot drink making facilities in each room. Free Wi-fi is provided – just ask for a voucher on arrival at reception. A guest information folder (also available in large print or Braille) is provided in each room and rooms serviced daily.

From the North: Leave the M5 at Junction 7 (Worcester South) and follow the A440/A4103 to Hereford From South Wales: Leave the M4 at Junction 24 (Newport East), follow the A449/A40 to Ross-On-Wye and the A49 to Hereford From the South East: Leave the M4 at Junction 15 (Swindon), take the A419 towards Cirencester, the A417 to Ledbury and the A438 to Hereford From the South West: Leave the M5 at Junction 11a (Gloucester North), follow A417 to Ledbury and the A438 to Hereford By Train: RNC is one mile from Hereford train station. There are usually taxis waiting at the station entrance. Rail services link Hereford with Cardiff (1 hour), Bristol (11⁄4 hours), Birmingham (11⁄2 hours), Manchester (2 hours) and London (23⁄4 hours) Free parking spaces are located adjacent to thePoint4 and across the road at Gardner Hall.
