It is less than an hour drive from Stansted Airport and 40 minutes from the Port of Harwich. Central London is 45 minutes by train and the idyllic city of Cambridge is an hour drive away. The Hotel has 39 ensuite bedrooms, which are located in various sections of the building. Choose from beamed character rooms which are located in the original house, classic styled rooms in the main hotel or executive rooms in the annex. Originally a 14th century coaching inn, The Rose and Crown was used as a stop-over for those bringing prisoners from the continent and Suffolk en route to London. The hotel still has a prison of which two cells with original doors can be seen. Many of the beams and windows are original. The fireplace in the Tudor bar, which is in the oldest part of the hotel, has a roaring log fire in the winter. Steeped in history, The Tudor Bar and Brasserie is in the oldest part of the building. Oak beamed walls and a glorious log fire at the centre create a warm and friendly atmosphere. At the next roundabout a double turn right and the hotel is on the left. From Ipswich. From A12 take exit for Colchester onto the A1232. Follow Ipswich Road for approx. 2-3 miles until you approach a double roundabout. Straight over both roundabouts following Ipswich Road. The hotel is on the left.
